High-pressure Gas Pipelines Buried by Ploughing

Vladimíra Šetková

Summary: The contribution outlines a new method for laying steel pipelines by way of ploughing, which was employed in the construction of the Soběslav–Planá and Lužnicí high-pressure gas pipeline. It describes the method, including its benefits and the findings related to its employment. The article offers a general description of the method and specific information about project execution.

Key words: Ploughing, pipe laying, pipe and weld coating, trenchless technology

Sleeves and Their ‘Hard Reality’: Composite v Steel on Steel Pipes

Lukáš Pařízek

Summary: The contribution compares two types of repairs of high-pressure gas pipelines and oil pipelines. One is a sleeve made of steel combined with composite filling and the other is a composite sleeve made of carbon fibre and epoxy resin. The two repairs were compared during an experiment in which a DN 500 pipe sample with artificial defects was repaired by those sleeves. Graphs in the article show the circumferential deformation on the defect’s surface under each sleeve after pressurisation. The contribution is intended to offer an idea of where combinations of steel and composite materials are or are not appropriate for elements exposed to high loads, such as high-pressure pipelines. An addition to the experiment was a software model of a steel sleeve with composite filling, based on the Finite Element Method.

Key words: Pipeline, repair, steel v composite sleeve, stress, deformation

Strain Hardening Test (SHT): Short Test for Estimating Service Life of HDPE

Eva Nezbedová

Summary: This contribution picks up on two articles published in this journal in 2015. Specifically in GAS 7 under the heading Plastics in Piping Systems: History and the Present, and in GAS 12 under the heading State of Play in the Standardisation of SCG and RCP Tests for PE Pipes. The present contribution summarises the findings gathered from a standardised short test, SHT, carried out on HDPE. It discusses the effects of the geometry of the test specimens and of the addition of a recyclate, and the possibility of correlation with the accelerated standardised PENT and FNCT tests

Key words: HDPE, service life, SHT
